WELCOME TO OUR FIRST EVER BLOG!!!! Can you tell we're excited? Instead of trying to figure out what we were going to write about, we just wanted to start with why we called this particular blog section “We're Still Here.”
As you may have heard/read/been told (or maybe you haven't!) we started in 2007. Yes, that's the official start of the band. But what MANY don't realize is that we've been singing since we were little. Not professionally. We just grew up in a household full of music. Classical, oldies but goodies, Christian contemporary, gospel - and we kept up with most of the music coming out on the radio. Maybe not the really secular ones - where the lyrics would make you embarrassed to share it with your grandparents, or make you have to cover a child's ears - but we were definitely aware that they existed.
Once our brother, William, passed away four days after birth from SIDS in 2002, it was actually our dad, Rey, that started writing songs. We would sing them and he would record them. Will you ever hear these recordings? TBD….
After our mom, Marie, passed in 2006, music became our refuge as well. We weren't RAMEKEGA, although the name existed as a group name under which we recorded any music. Those years were very hard, and we faced a lot of challenges during the succeeding years (this may be another blog or more, altogether).
And then in 2022, our dad, Rey, passed away. There's a quote by Oscar Wilde's Lady Bracknell from “The Importance of Being Earnest,” that comes to mind: “To lose one parent… may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness.” Our dad, himself, would quote this after both his parents passed - in hopes that the stark wit of such a remark would somehow lighten the despair of being an orphan. So, we remind ourselves of it, too. This blow was one of the hardest ones, though. He was our last remaining parent, and he gave everything he had to us. Well, we always came second to God in his life, but that's a great ranking to have! LOST doesn't even begin to describe our feelings. It was a soul-numbing experience. It's still really hard, and over the years, we've felt like giving it up entirely.
Then, like a soft breeze, another melody, another lyrical idea came. Another song was given.
Again and again, without fail, music has pulled us through the most difficult, unexplainable times in our lives. But it was God's gift to us that we would never feel abandoned because, as soon as a new song came from Him, we felt held by our Parents once more. A lot of readers may start clicking off at this point, and that's totally ok. We'll only talk about our own experiences, rest assured, but if it resonates with you, that's awesome!
But this gift of music - this blessing has enabled us to not only find our own healing, but allow others to find healing through the songs, too. It cuts us, before it cuts you. (Please don't read any Rambo-style metaphor into that!)
So, who are we?
We are the daughters of Rey and Marie Pozon, and they did not leave us destitute or without the will and determination to persevere. So, we are slowly and surely making our way to finding out how to get all the songs we've written recorded - whether professionally or on a home studio set-up. And also getting this website up was a doozy, but very enjoyable (thanks to the team at Bandzoogle and the transition team at IONOS).
There'll be more blogs to come, more stories, and definitely more songs!
We're still here because Music has not let go of us.
Thanks for joining us on this ride!
xx

P.S. If you got this far down the blog, you're a SUPERFAN - and also very patient. We'd always love to hear back from you, so feel free to comment, and let's talk!
